Joseph Joey G Ryan 2021

Obituary
Joseph “Joey” G. Ryan
1982 – 2021
Joseph Gary Ryan, know to all as “Joey”, passed away peacefully at his home on January 20, 2021, at the age of 39, surrounded by so much love after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Joey was born on January 7, 1982 in Miramichi and grew up in Chatham. He later moved to Nelson and became a proud Nelsoner.
Joey is survived by his mom Susan – his best friend who loved him so much, his dad John – who would have done anything for him, and his little brother Dillon, who he was so proud of. He is also survived by his “Gram Jam” Edith McGrath; aunt, Caroline (Ken) Daley; uncles: Ken (Joanne) Ryan, and George (Jo-Ann) McGrath. He will be missed forever by his loving girlfriend – his “Angel” Krystal Morris, and his two cats Stu and Jersey, who all remained by his side through his entire illness.
He is predeceased by his gramps, Joseph McGrath; fraternal grandparents, Kirin “Ken” and Lucy Ryan; uncle and godfather, Michael McGrath.
Joey is a JMH graduate and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts from St. Thomas University and a diploma in Human Resource Management from NBCC. He worked as a Youth Care Worker for many years where he established lasting bonds with his “kids” and co-workers. For the last three years he worked for the Federal Government at the Payroll Center where he gained another work family.
To say Joey was a sports fan would be an understatement. He was a loyal Yankees, Raptors, and Vikings fan. He especially loved baseball from an early age. As an adult he continued his love for ball and played fast pitch and slow pitch softball in Nelson, where he became a cherished member of the softball community.
He fostered others love for the sport by coaching a new generation of ball players. He was lovingly referred to as “JoeMama” by his Tommie Girls alumni. He was a proud member of the Miramichi Golf & Country Club, and he loved spending his summers on the course.
Joey’s personality and humor was infectious. He was a light for many people even on his hardest days. He had a way of comforting everyone around him. He was a dear friend to so many people and always listened without judgement. His friends and family meant everything to him. He was truly an inspiration and embodiment of what it meant to be a good friend. He will be missed tremendously but his memory will live on in the hearts of all the people who knew and loved him.
A PUBLIC Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Michael’s Basilica on April 10th, 2021 at 11 AM with Father Fraser as Celebrant. Interment will be held in St. Michael’s Cemetery later in the spring.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to COVID-19 regulations, masks are required to be worn continuously inside St. Michael’s Basilica. Please register attendance upon entry into the church. Physical distancing is mandatory. Thank you in advance for adherence to NB Public Health guidelines.
