With sadness we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather Joseph Delannoy on October 5th, 2021, at 12:15pm at the Saint Bonifice Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba at the age of 76.
On December 15,1944 Louis and Lillian Delannoy graced us with bringing into the world Joseph born at home in Shergrove, Manitoba. He grew up in Shergrove with his 9 siblings. In 1964, He moved to Winnipeg and started work at 17 Wing Air Base. In March 1965, he started working at National Grain until Cargill bought them out. He worked for Cargill until 1999.
In October 1970, Joe met his loving wife Joan of 50 years at the Winnipeg Ski Club. They were engaged on February 27, 1971. They married May 8, 1971, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. They had 3 children: Jonathon (1974), Jeffrey (1976), and Jaylene (1981). They have 6 grandchildren: Avery, Payton, Brooke, Katrina, Jackson, and Christian. They lived in Winnipeg, Manitoba until 1985 when they moved to Beausejour, Manitoba. They stayed in Beausejour until 2008 where they moved back to Winnipeg.
Joe was very active in sports. Joe was a member of the Winnipeg Canoe Club and Ski Club. Joe loved canoeing, skiing, bowling, baseball, and hockey. Joe was in the first Canada Summer Games in 1969 in Nova Scotia competing in Canoeing. In 1970, Joe was a part of Brigade for canoeing for Manitoba Centennial which traveled from Grand Forks, ND to Winnipeg which Prince Charles and Princess Anne met them. Joe also loved watching Toronto Blue Jays, Winnipeg Jets, Curling, and all of the CFL Teams play.
Joe loved camping and traveling. One of his favourite destinations to take his family for summer holidays was Bemidji, Minnesota. He was able to share his passions for canoeing with his family amongst the water lilies in the nearby Grant Lake. Joe loved a good laugh; he always lit the room up when he laughed. Joe was a man of few words but he would tell you straight when he had to. Joe was loved by many; he cared a lot and was very loyal. Joe usually saw the good in everyone and welcomed everyone. He showed a lot of strength even with battling MS for over 26 years.
