On October 17, 2021 Joseph « George » Giroux passed
away peacefully at home in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. George was born
in Ottawa, Ontario to Honore and Yvonne (Beaucarie) Giroux. He grew up
with siblings Arthur, Colette, and Robert. As a boy he was schooled at
the Acadamie de LaSalle, Ottawa by Catholic brothers from France. In
his teen years he enlisted in the Canadian Navy, serving in WWII,
which began a 25 year Navy career. Upon his military retirement, he
graduated from Dalhousie University with a Baccalaureate degree in
Commerce. He later served with the Canadian Government as Trade and
Commerce Representative attached to the Canadian Embassy with postings
in such places as Italy, the United States, and South Korea.
In addition to his second wife, Marian Joyce Fievet(nee Spicer)
and his step children Jacqueline Bosgraaf (Dan) and Jeffery Everett
(Sharon Lynn), he is survived by his brother Arthur Giroux, sister
Colette Fortune, daughter Yvonne Westhaver (Rick); grandsons Eric
Findlay (Grace), Mark Findlay (Almagul); three great-grandchildren and
nieces and nephews. George was predeceased by his parents; brother
Robert and his first wife Margaret « Theresa » Murphy.
There will be no visitation, service or memorial at his request.
R.A. Corkum Funeral Home, Wileville has been entrusted with his
cremation and interment. Memorial donations may be made to the
Canadian Cancer Society or charity of choice. Special thanks to the
Palliative Care Team, VON, the Nova Scotia Health Continuing Care
Team, Veterans Affairs, and all who provided such wonderful support to
George and his family.
