It is with great sadness that the family of John Vincent Hacquoil announces his passing on December 31, 2020, at home with loved ones by his side.
John was born on July 31, 1929, in Fort William Ontario, and at an early age moved to Port Arthurs, Ontario. This area was at various times called Twin Cities, Lake Head, and then finally, Thunder Bay, Ontario.
John is survived by his loving wife Marie, and children, Scott (Lindina, Hope and Hunter), Maurice (Marian, David, Nicole, Alex, Christina, Greg), Mike (Sara, Jimi, Gabe) , Sandra (Roy) , Carol (James) , many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.
John was predeceased by his parents, Joseph John and Ramona Hacquoil and siblings, Paul and Ann, and is survived by his sister Margret.
John was a member of the Knights of Columbus (Grand Knight) for over 50 years and was a Eucharistic Minister and Lector. He also volunteered for many organizations… Figure Skating Judge, Swimming Official, School Board Trustee, Volunteer Fire Officer, Member of Lions Club, Ponoka Stampede, Kamloops Air Show, Kamloops Internationals Bantam Hockey Tournament, Meals on Wheels, Operation Red Nose, Citizens on Patrol, and Volunteer Driver taking people to dialysis and other medical appointments.
John had many interesting jobs over the years. He was a lineman in Ontario and USA. In Thompson, Le Pas and Lynn Lake, Manitoba, he worked in the hotel industry. He was also a Lineman for International Nickel and Manager of Town of Ponoka Electrical Department. In Nelson, BC he became Electrical Superintendent for the city. Retired to Kamloops and then relocated to Castlegar and became Manager of Columbia River Estates Mobile Park for 7 years.
The family would like to thank Dr. Ankenbauer for the years of primary care he provided John. Special thanks to all of the CHW’s for their home support. Thank you to the amazing Palliative Care Program offering our family support and most importantly providing dignity for Dads end of life journey. We appreciate all the staff from Trail, Nelson and Castlegar hospitals, and the neighbors and friends for all their support. Finally, many thanks to Father Raffy and Father Peter.
There will be no service at this time. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of John may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
