It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of John Patrick “Jack” O’Reilly on Friday, December 17, 2021, surrounded by his family at 92 years of age. Beloved husband & best friend of Bernice (née Lyster) for 71 years. Cherished father of Molly Poirier (Pierre) and Patti Lumsden (Paul Forbes 2015). Loving “Papa Jackie” to Jocelyne Poirier Tjiachris (Jim), Rachelle Poirier Elmslie (Ryan) & Chantal Poirier (fiancé John Gibson). Sweet and fun-loving “Papa” to his great-grandchildren Ella Elmslie & Zachary Tjiachris.
Born November 14, 1929, in Detroit, Michigan (the day before the Ambassador Bridge opened) to parents Ida & Cecil. At the tender age of two, Jack lost his mother to polio. Cecil went on to marry Helen and Jack was blessed with a brother, Pat (2015), sisters Mary O’Reilly, Sharon Hoffman (late Jim) and “The Twins” Sister Colleen O’Reilly & Sister Maureen O’Reilly. Pre-deceased by his in-laws Norton & Josephine Lyster. Dear brother-in-law of Barbara Orlandi (late Victor) and pre-deceased by Noel Lyster and June Rossoni (Norm). He adored his special Aunts, Gertrude and Dorothy who lovingly raised Jack as their own. He will be missed by his wonderful and caring cousin Mary Catherine Reynolds (late John), as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Jack was the owner of Pierre’s Baguette Bakery where he spent many wonderful years and forged lasting friendships.
We will miss his kindness, easy-going manner, sense of humour and quick wit which often caught us off guard and kept us laughing. We will cherish our memories of Papa and the love and affection he had for his family.
A private funeral mass was held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church followed by interment at Assumption Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Family Respite Services Windsor-Es or the Alzheimer Society of Windsor & Es County would be greatly appreciated.
