John also adored his 13 grandchildren: Skye, Cash, Forrest (Keri); Angelina, Samantha, Tiana, Chevy, Cruz (Tony); Emily, Ryley (Amanda); Aida, Emma, Ashton (Randy).
John is also survived by his siblings Tony, Dorothy, Chris, Bob, Pauline and Jamie, and his Mother-in-Law Mary Heggie with whom he shared a special bond. He is predeceased by his parents Peter & Sarah Halvorson, his Father-in-Law Alan Heggie, and several other extended family members and close friends.
John was born November 7, 1953, one of the last babies born at the Galt Hospital in Lethbridge. His family moved to Raymond at a young age where he grew up, received his schooling, met and married his sweetheart and raised their family. John was a hard worker starting as a supervisor with Prebuilt Industries in Lethbridge, then moved over to Dorren Electric, and Dabb’s Electric where he pursued his career as a Master Electrician. He created & worked his own business JH Electric for several years before he was brought on with the County of Warner School Division and then the Director of Operations & Maintenance of Westwind School Division where he had a great career for many years. After retiring from the school division, John headed up north to work maintenance in the oil fields for a couple years and then furthered his education again to get his safety codes officer ticket where he worked around Southern Alberta. John also served his hometown & community on Raymond Town Council for 12 years. He was instrumental in the huge project of renovating the old brown church into the town’s community center during his time on town council. John was a man of many skills & talents and had a passion for restoring and building old trucks. His classic car collections were numerous over the years, but some of John’s favorite projects included the green 1960 Chevy shortbox, the red & white 1972 Chevy, and the red 1980 Chevy shortbox he built with his son.
No matter what John had on the go he was always available to lend a helping hand and serve others. He’s remembered by many by his bright smile, his infectious laugh and his genuine concern for everyone’s well-being. (Not to be confused by his scolding the neighborhood kids to keep their distance from his project cars.) He had many friends everywhere he went, and kept busy even after retirement with his good longtime friend Ken Rasmussen. John loved his family fiercely and was so protective of his loved ones. He felt especially blessed to have the opportunity to help raise his grand-daughters Aida and Emma who brought him so much joy in his later years. John loved the Lord and had a strong testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and served in the church & temple faithfully as long as he could until his mind started failing.
We are forever grateful to the generous staff at Raymond Hospital & Edith Cavell Care Center in Lethbridge for caring for John over the last 18 months.
