John Gerard Koopmans peacefully passed with family by his side on Wednesday Aug 25th 2021, at the age of 82. John’s passion was singing, which he started at an early age at the St Micheal’s choir. He then pursued is singing and acting career by being part of the “Swinging Eight” which appeared on CBC’s Country Hoedown for 8 years. He was able to produce a record that topped the 1050 CHUM charts in June 1963. John then decided to get a “real” job by working for the Ontario Attorney General. His career progressed and worked in the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing as a project manager. After John retired, he continued to sing with many different bands and choirs and volunteered at the Providence Healthcare for over 30 years until his passing. John was loved by many and will be dearly missed by is family and dear friends.
