John “Moe” Moreland
Passed away peacefully at Parkwood Veterans Care with all his loving family beside him on September 29, 2021 in his 96th year. John was born December 21, 1925 in Toronto, Ontario, is predeceased by his parents Robert and Florence (Hinves) Moreland.
Beloved husband of the late Beatrice (McCorquodale) (1971) and Florence (MacDonald) (2002). Dear father of Brian (Nora), John (Janice) and Georgina. Predeceased by daughter Francis (2005) and his infant son Joey (1956). Forever remembered by his 9 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. John is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his 2 brothers and their spouses Bill (Eunice), Fred (Shirley) and his 2 sisters and their spouses Lorna (Bill) Lightheart and Florence (Don) Patterson.
John proudly joined the army at the age of 18, served in the Army’s Service Corps in 1944 for 2 years. His time in the army had him driving through Holland, France and Germany in the trucks, tanks and motorcycle division. After the war, he worked at the La France textile factory in Woodstock, before starting at the Brewers retail in 1949, which lasted 39 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 55 and the Oxford County Naval Veterans Association Woodstock.
A private family service will be held at the Smith-LeRoy Funeral Home in Woodstock on Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at 11am where the family invites you to watch the funeral via livestream by clicking the link below. Guests are encourage to pre-register to ensure the funeral can bee seen on time. A reminder will also be sent prior to the funeral.

Friends and family will then gather for a public graveside service at the Woodstock Baptist Cemetery at 12:30pm where all are welcome. Cremation has taken place. The family would like to thank all the staff at Parkwood Institute in London for the special care they gave our father. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to the Parkwood Institute, London or to the Alzheimer Association Woodstock and may be arranged through the funeral home.
