John passed away on Friday, February 19th, 2021 at Mackenzie Health Hospital surrounded by love and prayers from his family at the young age of 84. He suffered a heart attack and other complications (non-COVID related).
He is deeply loved and will be forever missed by his beloved wife Cathy. He was a loving father to Christina (Patrick), Wendy (David), Joanne and Tracy. He was predeceased by his son Steven. He was a dear “Grandpa” to Taylor (Devon), Spencer, Mallory, Jacob, Maxx, Joshua and Alexandra. As well, a large extended family and circle of friends will also miss him.
Professionally, he was well respected within his engineering career and made major contributions to highway design within Ontario as well as his own business of designing homes in earlier years.
He was a man who loved life and lived it to its fullest. He was quick to laugh. He always was conscious of health and well-being. His favourite past-times were golf-golf-golf, bowling, watching a great basketball or hockey game, a delicious dessert or simply an animated discussion to dissect a great Dateline TV episode. Most recently, he got involved in the local CNIB club.
The thing closest to his heart and his greatest joy was time with family. Every year he would spend a week at Sauble Beach with his entire family enjoying the water, the sun and the togetherness. A lot of great memories were made there.
He was fun loving, supportive, logical, responsible, positive, and proud of his loved ones. John was always giving accolades. His calm demeanour was an inspiration to all who needed perspective, even if only for a moment.
Unfortunately, due to COVID restrictions, only a private family service will take place. Per John’s wishes, in lieu of flowers, donations in memory of John may be made to the CNIB.
