It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Joel Andrew Michael Sereda, late of Calgary, AB on October 20th, 2021, at the age of 45 years. Joel, Our Chosen Son, joined our family on March 8th, 1976, in Humboldt, SK. He started Kindergarten at St Dominic Elementary School in Humboldt, SK. Joel moved to Prince Albert, SK in 1983. He attended St. Joseph’s School, then Turgeon School, then St. Francis School, then he graduated grade 12 at Carlton High School.
Joel suffered from demons all his life, soothing them with alcohol. After several failed jobs in Prince Albert, SK, he moved to Calgary, AB with a friend, ending up in the Calgary Drop-In Centre. For the past three years, Joel lived independently in an apartment where he passed away peacefully.
Joel leaves to mourn his parents Doug & Polly Ann Sereda; his brother Paul (his fiancée Tammy Pengelly); his chosen brother Matt (Amber) Ricard and their daughter Leah; his friend Yvonne Gazdeczka; as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A graveside service will be held for Joel in the spring. In lieu of tributes, donations can be made in memory of Joel to The Calgary Drop-In Centre, Christmas Fund, 1 Dermot Baldwin Way SE, Calgary, AB T2G 0P8.
