Obituary of Joan Mae Cassidy
Joan Mae Cassidy
July 13th, 1925-September 4th, 2021
It’s with the heaviest of hearts we announce the passing of (Baba) Joan Mae Cassidy. She went peacefully in her sleep on September 4th, 2021 with her Granddaughter (Joni) by her side. Joan was born in Trenton, Ont. in 1925 to her parents Ethel Mae Gillette and Carl Orr. She married the love of her life, Warrant Officer William (Bill) Cassidy in 1946 and had two children. Joan is survived by her eldest son Tim Cassidy, (Shanni Cassidy), and her dear Grandchildren William & Serena. Her youngest son Murray Cassidy, (Janice Cassidy), and her pride and joy Grandchildren Murray (Kristen) & Joni. She also left behind her Great Grandchildren Aiden & Lyla who she loved dearly. Joan was truly one of a kind with a zest for life, quick wit, great sense of humour and fiery attitude. She was an animal lover and always had a dog by her side. Joan dealt antiques in the 40’s and had an eye for the finer things in life. She was genuinely as tough as they come and had a career as a Steel Buyer for Stephens-Adamson, priding herself on being the only female doing so at the time. Joan designed and built her own home in 1962 and spent over 50 years passionately travelling the world. She believed in “telling it like it is,” being self reliable, independent, and “never needing a man for anything.”
The Cassidy’s would like to thank the staff at Applefest Lodge Retirement Community for loving Joan like family and the staff at Trenton Memorial Hospital for their grace and kindness in her final days. In lieu of flowers, please consider a tribute donation to the Quinte Humane Society in Joan’s memory.
