Joan Poechman, of RR#2 Walkerton, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the Walkerton hospital on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 from complications of heart disease. She was 84.
She was born in Brant Township on July 13, 1935 to the late Roy and Isabel (nee Fritz) Tanner.
Joan is mourned by her loving husband Allan Poechman. She was a devoted mother to Terry Poechman (Penny Croft) of Chesley, Patricia Strong (Steve Albert) of Walkerton and Daryl Poechman (Patricia Smith) of Paisley. She was a loved and admired Grandma of Terry’s children: Adam (Jen) Poechman and doting Great-grandma to their children Jaden, Ella and Trey; Allanna (Kevin) Hubley and doting Great-grandma to their children Olivia and Penelope; and adored Grandma to Patricia’s children: Jeremy Murdoch, Tyler Strong, and Samantha (Justin) Oosthoek. Joan is fondly remembered by her siblings Betty (Jack) Nelson of Edmonton, Ruth (the late Alan) Engel of Hanover, and Shane (Gail) Tanner of Fergus, her sister-in-law Edith Austin, as well as her nieces and nephews and their families. She is predeceased by her parents, her brother Beverley Tanner, and Allan’s siblings Francis, Harold, Lillian and Willard.
Joan was a kind person who was dedicated to her 30 year teaching career with the Separate School Board. Her second 30 year career was beside Allan as the operations manager of their wood business.
A wonderful wife, mom, grandma and friend, Joan will be dearly missed.
A public visitation will be held at Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover, on Easter Monday, April 5, 2021 from 2-4 pm. Please call the funeral home (519-364-3660) during office hours of 10-3pm to book a time. As per COVID -19 Directives, all attendees must wear a mask and observe social distancing rules as there are a limited number of people allowed in the facility at any one given time.
A Private Family Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, April 6, 2021, at Holy Family Church. In order to adhere to provincial restrictions, the family invite you to watch the Mass via holyfamily.ca at 10:30 am. Father Emmanuel Azike officiating. Interment in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Carlsruhe, Ontario.
The family thanks the doctors and staff at Walkerton Hospital for their guidance and kindness. To our many friends and neighbours who have called, sent flowers, delivered food and in many other ways eased our burden over the past week, thank you for all you have done. We hope to see each of you soon.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, which Joan supported for many years, would be appreciated.
