Passed peacefully away on December 8, 2021, at the Health Sciences Centre, Jessie Walsh at the age of 92.
Pre-deceased by her loving husband, Michael Walsh, her parents Hubert and Alice Squires, her brothers Jim Squires and sister-in-law Doreen Squires, Max Squires and sister-in-law Louise Squires, Phillip Squires and sister-in-law Violet Squires, and Cyril Squires; her son-in-law William Hynes, and Cathy Walsh.
Leaving to mourn, daughters Mary Wall (Mark), Pauline Hynes, Louise Jine (Gary), and Anne Marie Knight (Ted); sons Ray (Susanne), Hubert (Sue), Larry, Kevin (Goldie), Chris, and Gerald; 22 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and a large circle of extended family and friends.
Jessie was born in Bonavista and lived her life with her husband Michael in Knight’s Cove where they raised their 10 children. In more recent years, she moved to the Conception Bay South/Paradise area to be closer to family. She would return to Knight’s Cove in the summer and throughout the years and had many cherished memories of her life there that she carried with her and often spoke of. She thrived on the visits from her children and grandchildren to Knight’s Cove at any time of the year and loved them all – the more, the merrier she would say and that she felt 10 years younger. Her memories of their Friday night card games and their annual weekend summer trips that stemmed from that with that special group were never forgotten, and she often reminisced about them. She loved a good game of cards and never shied away from 30 for 60. She lived her last four years at Meadow Creek Retirement Centre in Paradise where she made many new friends among the residents and workers alike. She loved the socializing and the bingo. Jessie was a very kind-hearted and loving person – to know her was to love her. She had a sense of humour that surprised people sometimes – God only knew what she was going to say. She had a way of making you feel that everything would be okay in the end, that everything comes out in the wash. She loved her family unconditionally, and family was the most important thing to her. She will be missed by everyone who ever had the pleasure of knowing her. Many heart-felt thanks to the nursing and support staff of the Meadow Creek Retirement Centre for their care and attention to Mom over the last four years. Many thanks, also, to the staff at the Health Sciences Centre Emergency, Unit 1. We are grateful for everything you tried to do for her.
