Obituary For Jenny Olivia Bakkehaug
October 10, 1926- August 18, 2021
With heavy hearts, we wish to share the peaceful passing of Jenny Bakkehaug, 94, a resident of the Grande Prairie Care Centre.
Jenny was born in northern Norway and came to Canada when she was less than a year old. They reached Nova Scotia and travelled by train to Alberta and spent less than a year with friends from Norway in Tofield, Alberta. In the spring, they came to register their homestead in the Valhalla Centre area.
Jenny went to school at the Poplar Hill School where she learned to speak English. She worked on the farm, working in the garden and in the home. She loved music and singing. Jenny moved into Grande Prairie with her Mom until her Mom’s passing in 1982. She lived on her own with help from her family until she went into Wild Rose Manor. It was during this time that she seriously began examining the Bible, eventually becoming one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She loved attending the meetings and going in service and spending time with her spiritual brothers and sisters.
Jenny is survived by her brother Ole/Tina Bakkehaug, brother-in-law Bruce McDonald, nieces, and nephew; Janet/Ron Adams, Darrell McDonald, Gerald/Denise McDonald, Shirley McDonald, Ross/Sandy McDonald, Einar Bakkehaug, Dolores Bakkehaug/Kelly McGuffin, Elden Bakkehaug, Allison Popesco/Marty Kooymanm, and many great nephews and nieces.
She was predeceased by her parents; Einar Konrad Olsen Bakkehaug, Ingebjorg Bakkehaug, sisters; Helen Agnes McDonald, Irene Bakkehaug, and an infant sister.
A private family memorial service will take place a later date at Poplar Hill Cemetery in Valhalla, AB.
The family sends a special thank you to the staff at the Care Centre for all of their love and care for Jenny.
