Jennifer Scott Tuesday August 17th 2021

On Tuesday, August 17th, Jennifer passed away peacefully at home.
Jennifer was born in Saskatoon where she was instilled with the virtues that would define her character: empathy, grace, integrity, inquisitiveness and love.
Jennifer received her first degree at the University of Saskatchewan (BA ‘83), then shortly thereafter married Don and moved to Vancouver. Don and Jennifer were together for 45 years. During those 45 years they created a beautiful life and family. A life well lived – but one ending too soon.
In 1987 there was a brief move to Toronto, then back to the coast to settle in West Vancouver. In 1991, Jennifer received her finance degree from Simon Fraser University (BBA ’91). She was a Certified Professional Accountant, a Certified Forensic Accountant and received many other professional certificates and designations. She excelled in financial risk management and enjoyed a distinguished career in the BC Credit Union system where she was rewarded with interesting work and many friendships.
A proud and unabashed feminist, Jennifer enthusiastically worked to move the needle on gender equality. She was a volunteer and later board member with West Coast Legal Education and Action Fund (LEAF) – an organization dedicated to using the law to challenge and eliminate gender-based discrimination to create a more equal and just society. She later went on to serve on the board of the National LEAF Foundation, where she served as Treasurer until earlier this year, and participated on boards for JASMINE and Battered Women’s Support Services. Jennifer was inspired by the work of strong passionate women making substantive changes for all women of Canada.
Jennifer is survived by her husband (Don Remenda), daughter Crichton (Kyle), son Dixon (Martyna), James, her mother Diane (Phil Dec. 2016), sister Meighan (Brian Dec. 2018), brother Phil (Andrea), brother Peter (Mike) and many nieces and nephews.
Jennifer thanks Dr. Howard Lim and his team of professionals from the BC Cancer Agency, her personal physicians, and her pharmacists. She is particularly appreciative of those who fought and suffered for the right of all individuals to maintain control over how they choose to end their journey. The Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) program was of great comfort to her and her family. She thanks Dr. Dirk Coetsee and his team for their kindness and compassion.
As she instructed, there will be no funeral or celebration of life – in her words “they just make people sad.” There will be a private gathering in her home in a few weeks.
