Jennie Bergman Monday February 22nd 2021

On Monday morning, February 22, 2021, with fresh snow on the trees and her bright red cardinals watching through the window, Jennie Mary Bergman (Lobinowich) took her last breath on earth and her first breath in Heaven with Christ and her daughter Barbie. Jennie passed away peacefully in her home holding the hands of her children (Cheryl and Ed), her daughter-in-law (Deborah) and husband (Gord).
Loving wife of 67 years, mother of three (Cheryl, Barbie (predeceased) and Ed), grandmother (Baba) of seven (Chris, Jon, Barbie, Dan, Andrew, Matthew and Michael), great-baba of two (Toby and Ben); Jennie lived a full and blessed life of 90 years. Born on February 26, 1931, she was the eldest of three children to Michael and Martha Lobinowich and is survived by her sister Stella (Hardy) and brother Ed.
Throughout her life, she was fiercely dedicated to her family and her faith in God. Living and growing up on the family farm in Ridgeway Ontario, she graduated as a RN from Niagara Nurses College and went on to work in the OR and as a Head Nurse. Jennie and Gord met at a Youth for Christ Rally, and on February 6, 1954, they were married in Niagara Falls where they lived and began to raise their young family. In 1967, the family moved to Brampton ON where she was a devoted member at their home church of Kennedy Road Tabernacle. Jennie had a calling and served as a gifted mentor and prayer warrior. In 1968 at the age of six daughter Barbie passed away from a rare blood disorder.
In 1973, Gord, Jennie, Cheryl and Ed moved to Lansing Michigan for one year while Gord studied and completed his PhD in Education at MSU. Upon returning to Brampton, Jennie continued to serve the Lord, mentoring, and caring for and feeding her family – her hand made noodles, cabbage rolls, borscht, perogies and sourcrout soup will be missed. Then in 1980 she and Gord moved to their home in Milton ON where she lived for the rest of her life. As an avid bird watcher, Jennie was blessed to have a family of rare Red Bellied Woodpeckers feed outside her front window every year, and in the spring, she and Gord would often take trips out to Point Peelee ON and watch the myriad of birds during their northern migration.
It was in their retirement in 1991 that the Lord called Jennie and Gord to go to Nairobi Kenya, where for five years they served as volunteers at Pan African Christian College. This was the fulfillment of a promise that God had placed on Jennie’s heart as a teenage girl, that one day she would serve in Africa.
In her later years, Jennie continued mentoring, meditating on God’s Word, and praying for and feeding her grandchildren. Her most fervent desire was to have her loved ones come to know the Lord and accept him as their Savior.
Special thank you to the community palliative team of Prime Care Family Health, Acclaim Health, and the Halton LHIN. In particular we wish to recognize the personal loving support of NP Sharilee, and RN Diana.
