Obituary
Jeff died peacefully with family members by his side on September 27, 2021.
Survived by his sister Lena Paxton. Predeceased by 8 brothers and sisters and lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews.
Leaving The Netherlands behind in 1953, Jeff boarded a boat with his mother, brothers and sisters to start a new life in Canada. Having the difficult task of leaving his friends and everything he had ever known behind, Jeff embarked on his journey with optimism. Once he arrived, he embraced the Canadian lifestyle and never looked back. Settling on a farm in Aurora, Jeff and his siblings worked tirelessly to ensure that the family would succeed in the country that they now called home. After the family was well established, Jeff thought it was time to change careers and decided that concrete was his calling. He was a dedicated and longtime employee of Dufferin Concrete for over 25 years.
Known as the “cool” uncle, Jeff was a favourite of many of his nieces and nephews, almost akin to a big brother rather than uncle. There would be waterskiing and fishing adventures and of course, excitement when he showed up in one of his memorable cars. His 1962 blue Impala was his favourite. Cars weren’t his only passion, he was also cameraman extraordinaire. Forever capturing and filming fun times at the much anticipated annual family reunions.
And then there were Sports. Jeff loved his sports. He participated in curling, golf, bowling and lawn bowling but he loved any kind of sport. When he was no longer able to participate in these activities, he would still enjoy watching them on TV. Of course, being Dutch, he liked soccer but, I think, his favourite was watching the the World Junior Ice Hockey Campionship. He was a true Canadian hockey fan.
Jeff was an extremely devoted son who lovingly cared his mother. His dedication to her is undeniable. Family was important to him and his bond with his 9 brothers and sisters was also strong.
Our family wishes to express our sincere gratitude to Dr. Mittal, Dr. Rix and the staff at South Muskoka Memorial Hospital and Chartwell Retirement Home for their compassionate and extraordinary care of Jeff.
