Jean was born in Hatchley, Ontario on January 11, 1918 to Frank and Maude (Swayze) Bartlett and was educated at Sarnia General Hospital graduating in 1939 as a Registered Nurse. Jean married Gordon Clark Dickin on July 18, 1942 at Sarnia, Ontario and fondly remembered their honeymoon travelling on a Great Lakes steamer christened MV Hamonic where they enjoyed dancing to big band music. Married life took Jean to the Muncey Indian Reserve, Es County (Windsor, Ontario), Fort Macleod and Calgary, Alberta. Jean was employed with Sears Canada, Calgary for over 25 years as a nurse and in the personnel department. In 1980 Jean and Gordon relocated to B.C. and enjoyed several years of retirement on Pender Island, before moving back to Calgary in 1985. Jean enjoyed travelling to locations such as: England, Greece, Florida, Hawaii, Arizona, Washington D.C. and New Orleans.
Jean was an avid curler, bowler and member of the 55+ club at the Calgary Winter Club and was a key member of the Anglican Church Women’s auxiliary and member of Holy Cross Book Club. She loved to play her snare drum with the musical group at Boardwalk Retirement Residence.
A memorial service and reception will be planned in her honour at a later date at Holy Cross Anglican Church, 2828 – 19th Street NW, so Jean’s family and many friends may gather to remember her.
