Jean Seggie (nee Jackson) passed away peacefully, after a life span of a century. Jean was born to parents Thomas and Mary Jackson (nee Chalmers) in 1921. She will be reunited with her husband of 35 years, Keith (May 2nd, 1928 – January 21st, 1991), her siblings George, Sarah (Sadie), and Mary Evelyn (Maisie), as well as her two grandchildren Kimberly and Michael Seggie.
Jean grew up in Rutherglen, Glasgow, and started working as a bookkeeper, sharing with friends that if another war were to happen during her lifetime, she would become a nurse. She achieved this during WW2 and worked in a tuberculosis ward. She continued with nursing after the war, immigrating to Canada in 1955, abroad the Empress of Australia.
In Canada, Jean found love with Keith Seggie, and they settled on a small farm near Holbein, SK, where they raised their family. Jean continued working as a public health nurse, assisting women in home births, and even going so far as to assist a dog in the birth of nine puppies. Jean was very supportive of the community, particularly as a member of the Saskatchewan Action Committee for the Status of Women.
Jean spent her retirement years in Prince Albert, alongside her daughter Mary and her grandchildren Kelly, Paige, and Colin. She would continue her travels across Canada and the United States. Jean was also very talented with a needle and thread, producing vast amounts of cross stitch, embroidery, macrame, and winning awards annually at the Prince Albert Exhibition.
Jean is survived by her sister, Christine; her children Hamish, Thomas, and Mary; her grandchildren Kelly, Paige, and Colin Breland, Michelle Seggie, Sarah, Jacob, and Ryan Seggie; her great-grandchildren Carson and Stella Turner. She will be remembered as a strong, independent woman well ahead of her time.
