It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Jean Guy Roy of Elliot Lake, Ontario, who passed away on May 13th 2021 at the age of 89. As one of the last pioneers of the area, Jean Guy & his young family came to Elliot Lake on January 4th 1957 with nothing more than a 12 X 12 prefabricated shack on the back of a 5 ton truck. Yet, not only would he go on to earn the top position on the local museum’s mining competition trophy on multiple occasions through the years, but he also managed to build or accumulate several houses, an apartment building & a highly profitable local retail outlet. However, absolutely nothing captured his enthusiasm like the annual moose hunt. He is predeceased by his parents Viateur & Flore, his brothers Marcel & Bertrand, infant child Gilles, daughter Celine (Roy) Belec & her husband Roland & is survived by his sister Marielle Roy. Also survived by his children & their spouses, Denis (Brenda Scott), Ghislain (Helen Pysznyj), Richard (Nicole) & Nicole Harel (Richard). He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Daniel, Candice, Tiffany, Carly, Chantal (Roy) Guitard, Sylvie Belec, Lucy Belec, Angele Hatfield & his great grandchildren Keedan Guitard, Gabrielle Belec, Evangelene & Emmett Hatfield. Unfortunately, in accordance to his final requests & Covid restrictions, there are no formal gatherings planned at this time.
