Obituary
Dorothy “Jean” (Cameron) Milton
Peacefully at the Bobier Villa, Dutton, on Wednesday 7th July, in her 94th year with members of her family by her side. Dear wife of the late Lorne Milton (2013). Much-loved and cherished mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She is survived by her daughter Louise and her husband Geoff of Devon, England, her son Wayne and wife Ruth, and granddaughters Hannah and Micaela of Guelph. She was predeceased by her sister Anne (Cameron) White. She is lovingly remembered by her brother Don and sister-in law Grace Cameron of London, sister-in-law Dorothy Milton of Kanata, brother-in-law Norman White of Teeswater, and also by cousins, nieces and nephews.
Jean had a strong Christian faith, and without doubt, this was the guiding force of her life. Born at the family home on Clay Street, she attended Dutton High School, followed by London Bible Institute where she graduated in 1949. Jean worked in London before returning home to Dutton to work in the Royal Bank. It was during this time she met Lorne. They were married in 1958 and Jean started the next chapter of her life with Lorne on the farm, just south of Dutton. It would be her home for the next 59 years. As a farm girl, the farming life came naturally to Jean, and she joined forces with Lorne in all parts of farm living. She kept chickens for many years, and many local people would only buy eggs from Jean! She loved her family and devoted herself to creating a loving home where each member could thrive. There was always much laughter, and family and friends were always welcome. Jean loved to play the piano, and the sound of music and singing were ever present. Another favourite past time was her flower garden, and natural bouquets often graced the family home. Local residents will remember Jean and Lorne as rural mail carriers, a role they both enjoyed. Despite the many challenges of life, Jean was tremendously resilient and lived out her Christian faith in a way that touched the lives of everyone around her. Both she and Lorne were stalwart members of the Dutton Baptist Church, where they worshipped and developed friendships which would last a lifetime. For the past four years, Jean had been a resident of the Bobier Villa. Despite the sadness of leaving the farm, Jean found great joy in making new friends and the many opportunities for singing and making music. Jean’s whole life was one of loving service to her family and friends. She will be remembered for her gentle smile, compassionate nature, sense of humour and many kindnesses to those around her. The family would like to extend a huge, heart-felt thank you to the staff of the Bobier Villa, and all who cared for our Dear Mum.
A private funeral will take place at the Arn Funeral Home on Tuesday 13th July at 2 p.m., followed by internment at Cowal Cemetery. Gifts in memory of Jean may be made to the Dutton Baptist Church, Canadian Bible Society or Bobier Villa.
