Jean Adele Jeannie MacGillivray Friday September 3rd 2021

MacGillivray
Jean Adele
Born December 22, 1949 Died September 3, 2021
Predeceased by parents Amanda Helen and Roderick Grant MacGillivray, and by sisters June Irene and Audrey Jean (1948), and Myrna Helen Meyer.
Loving wife of James Justin Morrow, married since 1976. Aunt of Donna Helen Bozzo (Italo) and Robert Craig Baxter (Cathy). Leaves behind great-nieces and -nephews, many cousins that she grew up with in Glengarry County, childhood friends, and others from the motorsports community.
Born in Montreal, Jean moved to Ottawa for her education and career. Her Journalism Diploma from Algonquin College, followed by a Master of Arts degree from Carleton University, led to a career she loved. She got her start as a general news reporter for The Cornwall Standard-Freeholder, before becoming a writer, editor and project manager on a range of subjects, from remote sensing to district heating plants, from modern dance to neuroscience. She also edited for the House of Common Committee Reporting Service, and did some editing for “Geomatica”
Jean and Jim met when she was a summer student in 1974. Jim was a wonderful support, a loving companion, and always a treat to be around. They shared a passion for motorsports, especially rallying and marshalling at Calabogie Motorsports Park.
She also enjoyed volunteering with the Lanark County Therapeutic Riding Program, which helps special-needs children develop strength and mobility, and supporting their fundraising efforts.
But most of all she loved motorsports. She wanted to do “something amazing” in memory of her father, so she and Jim entered their GC8 Subaru (Growler), and entered Targa Newfoundland 2003. Once home, Jeannie became more involved in rallying, serving on the BOD of RallySport Ontario, and learning new skills. She got her Ham radio licence (VE3JNE) so she could work as a marshal and a course car driver. She became the Rally Director for the Ottawa SportsCar Club, holding the job until poor health intervened.
She became the first Marshalling Coordinator at Calabogie Motorsports Park, which opened in 2007 not far from home, and always loved being at the track (especially driving). It was Jeannie’s “happy place.”
Jeanie loved to travel and she had hoped to get back to Paris to revisit some of her favourite spots, but we left it too late.
Jeannie had asked me to send her love to all of you who have been her friends and support over the years. Special thanks to the great staff at the Ottawa General Campus Cancer Centre, The Care Centre and Dr Wahay and the folks at the Perth Hospital Palliative Centre. Your care and compassion eased our journey.
Jeannie’s interment will take place at St Columba church in Kirk Hill in the next little while (to be determined) If you wish to donate, donations would be gratefully accepted to Ovarian Cancer Canada, the Lanark Animal Welfare Society, or to the charity of your choice.
