Obituary
Janet Carrole McNeil (nee Voechting), late of Weyburn, SK, passed away at Parkway Lodge, Weyburn, SK on September 20, 2021 at the age of 89 years.
She was predeceased by her husband Malcolm after 58 years of marriage; her parents Harold and Mabel Voechting; step-mother Margaret; brothers: Glen, Wes and Les; sister Lorraine; her mother-in-law Ethel McNeil; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Mary and Kasper Wanner.
She will be lovingly remembered by her son, Charles; sisters: Yvonne (Carl) Von Hagen, Barb (Milton) Wheler, Norma (Hal) Langedahl, and Claudine (Mark) Rose; her step-brother Greg (Pat) Kulak; and several nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Janet was born at home in Tribune, SK on March 7, 1932. She spent her growing up years on the family farm near Tribune and received her formal education at Big Timber School. Sadly when Janet was 16 years old, her mother passed away. She then took on the responsibility with her Dad of helping to raise her four younger siblings for the next 2 years until such time as her Dad re-married.
When Janet was 18 years old, she became employed as a care-aide at the Weyburn General Hospital. It was while she was working at the hospital that she met her husband Malcolm. They were married May 22, 1953 and settled on the McNeil farm in the Talmage-Worcester area. They welcomed their only son Charles on July 4, 1959. After nearly 30 years on the farm, they retired and moved into Weyburn (1982).
Once in town, Janet enjoyed bowling, the Red Hat Society and Grace United Church Women. She loved to cook, bake and entertain. In 1999 they sold their home and purchased a condo at 11 Coteau Avenue. Unfortunately, Malcolm’s health declined to a point where it was now necessary for him to move into the Souris Valley Extended Care (which later became Tatagwa View) facility in June of 2000. Janet was his devoted ‘arms length’ care giver for the next 12 years until his passing in 2012.
Due to Janet’s declining health, she and Charles made the decision that she should move into Parkway Lodge in May 2019. She “settled in” and made it her final home. Her family are so grateful for the gentle caring staff at Parkway who made her life there so comfortable and pleasant.
