When it’s said that heaven receives an angel, on Friday, March 26, heaven received the most beautiful, loving and sweetest angel ever…Janet Amy Lee Butterworth.
Janet’s journey began on April 8, 1956 in Toronto. Janet was born to Shirley and Jack Butterworth. It was not long after that, that Janet was considered a special baby with special needs and would require unconditional love for the rest of her life. Her mom and dad instantly started working with her. They taught Janet to talk, laugh, walk and love.
When Janet was 5 years old, she attended Thornhaven School in Richmond Hill. It was there that she made friends and learnt how to communicate with others. When Janet was 15 years old, she attended Arc Industries, a place where special need children go to help with community work and to socialize with others. Janet attended Sunday school for many years at St John’s Baptist church in Richmond Hill. She loved these places with all her heart.
Janet was funny, kind, gentle, thoughtful, and caring and had the biggest smile for everyone she met. No matter where she was, Janet took on the role of the “greeter” without any hesitation. She enjoyed spending quality time with all her family, relatives and friends. Janet loved everyone and was loved by all.
When Janet was 46 years old, she went to live at Participation House in Markham which soon became her home and her extended family for over 18 years. Janet adored and loved everyone at Participation House and they returned that love.
Janet was diagnosed with cancer last October. It was a complete shock to all. Janet continued to live at the place she knew as home…Participation House. They cared for her in every way and made sure she was never in pain or uncomfortable.
Words cannot express how wonderful Participation House was to Janet. We are so grateful and extremely thankful to the staff, PSWs, nurses, doctors and all the residents that helped Janet through these last few months.
A special thank you to Dr. Hijra at Markham Stouffville Hospital for her advice and kind words and to Dr. Emilie Lam and LHIN.
Janet joins her dad, Jack Butterworth, and her aunts and uncles in heaven. She is survived by her loving mom Shirley, her sister Heather, her brother Peter, her niece Sara and her nephews Jordan and Scott.
We are all so proud to call Janet our daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin, and friend. She made us all so proud.
