Jane Anne Ketcheson Maslin
With sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother at the Ruddy-Shenkman Hospice
in Kanata on March 20, 2021.
Born in Calgary, AB, Jane attended the University of Alberta where she studied Geology and played on
the women’s University basketball team. She was also involved with the Calgary Symphony Orchestra
and was an admired Guider and loved the Stampede. Arriving in Kanata in early 1969 with her husband
Ron and daughter Janet, Jane and Ron helped build the community from the ground up along with many
other original families. She was well known as a piano teacher, a cellist with the Kanata Symphony and
Parkdale United Church Orchestra, was an active member and volunteer of Kanata United Church,
Kanata Theatre, and March-Kanata Skating Club. Jane also managed KT Clowns with Ron which helped
raise funds for Kanata Theatre’s Playhouse.
Jane is survived by her daughters Janet and Susan and her feline companions who will all miss her
terribly. She is also survived by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law in Australia, as well as many nieces,
nephews, and their children and grandchildren. For many, Jane was also considered a second mom.
A patient, kind, generous, supportive woman with a great sense of humour. A well-respected musician.
A community builder. She will be missed by her extended family and her many friends, framily (friends
who are family) and neighbours.
A celebration of Jane’s life will take place at a later date.
Donations in Jane’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, Hospice Care
Ottawa (Ruddy-Shenkman Hospice), or a charity of your choice.
