Jan Louise Morrow passed away peacefully in Yarmouth Regional Hospital on October 6th, 2021. She was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, and was the daughter of the late Alvin T. Vogel and Gertrude Oertel Vogel. She was 74 years of age.
After high school, she scored very high on scholastic testing and was offered a number of scholarships. She was studied at Valpariso University and Toledo University, where she met her husband. After marriage, she and her husband moved to Canada, and their child, Anna, was born in Saskatchewan in 1970. They settled in Ireton, Yarmouth County, Nova Scotia, shortly thereafter.
In 1970, she became director of the first child daycare in Yarmouth under the mentorship of Doctor Margaret Churchill. Subsequently, she served on the district school board and then was elected as a councillor of the Municipality of the District of Yarmouth for two terms. Subsequently, she became the first director of Yarmouth Argyle Home Support and built the agency to service the three Yarmouth County Municipal units until her retirement. She and her family farmed at the homestead in Ireton, and she was very proud of her 1900 homestead.
She was treasurer of Beacon United Church and a member of the I.O.D.E. and had a very deep and abiding faith in God.
As her health became compromised, she was grateful for the generous support of friends including, but not limited to, Marg and John Thibeau, Stephen, Janet and Steen Sollows, David and Cheryl Hamilton and their children Louella MacKinnon, Aurel Mooney and others.
She is survived by her former husband, Denny Morrow, their daughter Anna Kathleen Kazi, granddaughters Shoma Kathleen Kazi and Nula Aisha Kazi. Her brothers, Jim Vogel (Candy), Bob Vogel (Annette) and sister, Beth Vogel as well as two nieces, two nephews, five great-nieces and nephews and many cousins. Jan’s legacy is to her daughter and granddaughters.
There will be a memorial service at Beacon United Church in Yarmouth at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 29th, 2021 with Rev. Sharon Lohnes officiating. Committal will be observed in the summer of 2022 in Illinois during the Vogel Family reunion.
