James LaFitte
August 30, 1928 – December 23, 2020
It is with sadness that I announce that James (Jim) Lafitte of Port au Port, Newfoundland passed away December 23rd , 2020 at the age of 92. Jim will be dearly missed as a loving father and grandfather. Jim is survived by his brother Stan Lafitte and Sons Michael, wife Melise, Paul, wife Pam and grandchildren Rachel, Megan and Austin. He will be remembered by special friends Teresa McCann, who meant so much to him in the past years and Mary McCann who helped him out through the difficult times in the final years.
Jim was predeceased by wife Theresa Catherine (Leitch) of Corner Brook, Newfoundland and brother, Sam.
Many of you who have known Jim knew how easygoing, as well as a great listener and talker he was, and always loved a good joke.
He loved watching baseball and was an avid reader. I will always remember the bedtime stories he told my brother and I when we were little. In his calming tones, he told stories of adventure that never lasted long enough. His brief work in the RCAF provided him with stories to tell of adventures all over England, Germany, France and other places in Europe. After his military service, he was a negotiator for IOC finding a way for people to work together when the unions and management couldn’t agree. He was a person who could find the positive in everyone. As a human resources manager, working for Shell Canada in Calgary and then Crows Nest Resources in Fernie BC, he was able to bring together the best people and fit them into positions that embrace their abilities with the company.
James felt the call to return to the rock, and after many years away he returned living with Teresa (mom) until she passed away in Stevensville Crossing,
A service will be held this summer, God willing, when we can all get together, at his final resting place.
