Obituary of James Ashman Brown
It is with great sadness that we share the news of Jimmy’s death on October 10, 2021. He died peacefully following his struggle with pancreatic cancer.
James is lovingly remembered by his wife of 55 years, Phyllis; his daughters Brenda (Tom) Gardner and Leanne (Todd) Ripplinger; his grandchildren, Jaimee (Julio), Jorden and Josie Gardner, Brett (Megan) Rae, Amie (Travis) Williams and Turner and Calder Ripplinger; his great-grandchildren Finlyn and Paxton Williams; and his sisters Shirley MacDonald and Mildred Elder as well as many others family and friends who knew and loved him. James was predeceased by his parents Alexander and Viola (nee Bailey) Brown; his brothers Glenn Brown, Edwin Livingstone and Tom Livingstone; and his brothers-in-law Lorne MacDonald and Dick Elder.
James was a kind, hardworking and dedicated family man who wore his heart on his sleeve. James was generous and genuine, always share his time and support without expectation of receiving anything in return. He loved to go for a coffee with friends and family alike. All those who were close to him called him Jimmy which is what Phyllis called him when she wanted to get his attention.
Jimmy loved sports of all kinds; he had season tickets for both the Pats and the Roughriders and he loved to get out to a Red Sox game as well. But, what he loved the most was being in the stands to cheer on his grandchildren and great-grandchildren – he rarely missed a game. Jimmy was also an athlete in his own right. Never afraid of a challenge he took up running as he approached his 60’s and competed in a number of marathons after turning 60. One of his last races was the half marathon at the Queen City Marathon less than six months before he underwent open heart surgery.
He will be fondly remembered and missed by all who knew him.
Memorial Service will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK., on Friday, October 15, 2021 at 10:00 a.m.
Family and friends so wishing, may make memorial donations in James’ name to a charity of your choice.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de James
