In Loving Memory Of
James Robert Clunas
It is with profound sadness we announce that our brother, James Robert “Jim” Clunas passed away on June 30, 2021 at his home in Kelowna, BC. He was 74 years old.
Jim was born at the old St. Joseph’s hospital in Dawson Creek, BC, the youngest of three children born to Percy and Marjorie Clunas. He grew up on the family farm at Briar Ridge. In 1959 when he was 9 years old, the East Pouce Coupe School was closed and all of the children were bussed to the elementary school in Pouce Coupe. Jim was a member of the Landry 4-H Club for many years and enjoyed looking after the Hereford calves that he raised, showed, and sold at the annual Dawson Creek 4-H auction.
In 1960 the family moved to from the farm to Dawson Creek where Jim attended Central and Frank Ross schools and graduated from South Peace Senior Secondary in 1966. He worked at McLeod’s when he was in high school and when he finished school he started working at Peavey Mart in Dawson Creek. He also worked for them in Peace River for a few years.
Jim moved to Grande Prairie in 1974 where he worked for Northern Metallic Sales for the next 20 years. In 1995he was offered a job with Emco Limited, a wholesale plumbing distributor, and he remained with the company until he retired in 2010 and moved to Kelowna, BC to be closer to his family.
A highlight for Jim was in September 2007 when he flew to Europe with his sisters. After a week in London, they took the train to Brighton and then rented a car and drove the length of England, into Scotland where they again stayed for more than a week exploring their Clunas heritage near Inverness. They finished their holiday by taking the train to Paris for a few days.
Jim was predeceased by his parents, Percy and Marjorie (nee Johnson) Clunas, and his brothers-in-law, Les Gudlaugson and Eric Craig, his cousin Dee (nee Rogers) Newman as well as all of his aunts and uncles.
He is survived by two sisters, Helen Craig of Kelowna, BC, and Pat Gudlaugson of Surrey, BC. He leaves to mourn his nephew Lorne (Louise) Gudlaugson of Grande Prairie, AB, his nieces, Lynne (Dale) Himer of Grande Prairie, AB, and Lana Gudlaugson of Vancouver, BC. He also leaves behind many cousins, great nieces and nephews and his very special cousin Pauline Rogers of Kelowna, BC.
At Jim’s request there will be no Funeral and he will be interred at the Westbank Cemetery in West Kelowna, BC.
If you wish, a donation may be made in Jim’s memory to a charity of one’s choice.
