In Celebration of
James (Jim) Hanford Oreto
August 2, 1950 –
January 14, 2021
With his loving wife and eldest son by his side, peacefully passed away in his 71st year on January 14, 2021. The bravest of fighters and jolliest of souls, Jim will always be remembered as a truly kind, humble, giving and loving man. Loving husband to Isa Cassano. Adored and devoted father to James, Stephen (Katarina) and Amanda (Joshua). Brother to Fred, Anthony (Margie), Rick (Karen) and Tina (Dave). Most loved uncle to Jason, Kathleen, Matthew, Kevin (Rebecca), Caroline, Daniele (Lucia), Candace, Antonio, Joseph, Michael, Stefanie, Anthony, Dina (Francesco), Terra, Jamie, Julia, Natalia and Piero. Preceded in death by his parents Fredrick and Alma Oreto and his nephew Brendon Oreto.
Jim will be forever remembered for his genuinely kind soul, for always being ready to lend a helping hand and for his incredible baking skills. He stood as a pillar of strength to all those around him. Jim’s legacy will forever live on through all those who were lucky enough to be touched by his light. His impactful time at Bill Bolton Arena was always a point of pride for him. He was proud to provide a supportive, and safe place for countless youth and adults alike. His life work will be felt by many, especially through his children, who always felt their father’s pride in them.
Jim’s family wishes to express unending gratitude and appreciation to Jenny and Angelo DiFrancesco, and Scott Wonnell for the unconditional love and support they gave to Jim and his family during both happy and difficult times.
No service will be held at this time. Jim’s life will be celebrated at a time when all those who loved him can safely gather and raise a glass to this remarkable man.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to The Canadian Cancer Society or The Brendon Oreto Foundation is requested.

I am so sorry to hear about Jim. I served for a number of years on the Bolton Board. I appreciated his unique leadership style, his good humour, and his kindness. I particularly remember his thoughtfulness and words when my wife died. I believe the arena should be renamed in his honour.
