Mitchell, James (Jay). We are sad to announce the sudden passing of our wonderful Father, Son, Brother, Papa and friend, James (Jay) Mitchell at home on Wednesday December 29th, 2021 at the young age of 64. Jay leaves behind five sons; Adam (Anne) Mitchell of Espanola and his children Dalton, MacKenzie and Austin; Greg (Courtney) Mitchell of Courtland; Chris (Jasmine) Mitchell of Las Vegas and their children Payson, Ryland and Brecken; Chace (Kennedy) Mitchell of Hagersville and Houston (Hilary) Mitchell of Jarvis and their daughter Mya. Jay will also be missed by his trusted St. Bernard, Bruce and Molly the cat. Also mourning this tremendous loss is his Mother Irene Mitchell, sisters Joanne (Larry) Tierney, Barb (Gary) Anderson, Gwen (Mark) Willard and brother Jeff (Gayla) Mitchell. Jay was also loved by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his Father, James (Jim) Mitchell (2015), Grandson Bently McCauley (2021) and longtime friend Larry Lindsay (2006). Jay worked at Ontario Power Generation for over 30 years as a heavy equipment mechanic and a crane operator while also helping to run the family farm which was his true passion. Since his retirement he has been farming full time while also fixing everything for everyone. Last week he finally finished fixing the farm Bobcat which had been broken for a very long time. He was so proud of this. There aren’t many people that have as much mechanical talent as Jay did. He had a deep love of Massey Ferguson equipment which was passed on from his Father. He never said no to anyone who needed his help. Jay was known for calling a spade a spade and if you did something stupid, he would tell you (especially if your stupid activity meant he had to fix something). We loved him for this. He worked hard every day and instilled his work ethic in all of his children and grandchildren. He was also excellent in the kitchen and was famous for his banana bread, cookies, moonshine and cauliflower soup. Jay was a proud father and did everything he could for his boys. He hauled them around great distances as a hockey dad and was well known as a baseball coach that gently told the odd umpire that they “may” have a slight vision problem. Under the tough exterior, he had a heart of gold and will be missed everyday by anyone who was lucky enough to be in his life. A family service will be held at COOPER FUNERAL HOME, Jarvis followed by cremation. Friends are invited to sign The Book of Remembrance at www.cooperfuneralhome.ca
