Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jack (John George) Doherty of Hamilton, Ontario on December 11th, 2021 at the age of 82. Jack was born in Bourlamaque, Quebec to John Fife Doherty and Bertha Rose Seguin. Jack lost his wife Sandra (Taylor) to cancer at a young age and raised his two children alone when single fathers were not common. He taught Secondary math in the Hamilton School Board for most of his career. Jack enjoyed summers at the family cottage, and camping (across Canada from coast to coast). He had a strong sense of community and enjoyed volunteering (McMaster Hospital, eyeglass donation). He had extensive hobbies resulting in the nickname Outback Jack. Jack swam in a Masters swim club, he biked (often to work and also on a single trip from Hamilton to Montreal), he enjoyed cross country and alpine skiing and his yearly white water canoe trips with The Teachers. Jack had an adventurous spirit and had many new experiences even after his retirement. He took-up pottery and enjoyed his classes at the Dundas Valley School of Art. He backpacked through India and Southeast Asia and visited South Korea, and British Columbia numerous times.
Jack will be missed by his children Jason (Kim), and Kim (Jung), his grandchildren Zachary, Valerie (Ryan), Hadeh, Ha-eil and Hagoh, sister Charlene (predeceased by John), nieces Michelle (Dan) and Karen, and nephews John (Matilde) and David (Alison).
Special thanks to the staff at Owen Sound Hospital for the wonderful care he received over the last 2 months.
A Celebration of Life and interment at Fonthill Cemetery will take place in the Spring.
