Obituary of Isobel Pipoli
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Isobel Pipoli on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at the F.J. Davey Home at the age of 92. Beloved wife of the late Dominic (Nick) for 72 years. Cherished Mother of Jean Boyle (Joe), Irene Radtke (Ben), Toni Rylatt (Raymond), Isobel Black (late Joe) and Nicki Breuer (Ralph). Adored Nanny of Yvonne (Lars), Liz, Stephen (Meghan), Geoff (Judy), Nicholas, Ryan (Sheryl) and Chris (Ann). Loving Great-Nanny of Riley, Korey, Megan, Erika, Miller, Matteus, Reese and Dominic. Sister of the late Mae Keiser (Harold), June Devine, Margaret Woodman, William (Bill) Martin, Ted (DeVries Martin, and Jackie Martin. Isobel is survived by two close sisters-in-law, Florence Tunzi and Geneva MacWilliam.
A self-proclaimed “city girl”, at 18 and newly married, Isobel accompanied her new husband Nick to a trap line along the Algoma Central Railway where together they built and operated Camp Millwood and raised a family. They went on to successfully own and operate Millwood Air Services at the Sault Ste. Marie Airport as well as Man Air Service in Manitouwadge, Ontario. They also owned and operated Buckeye Resort and Batchawana Bay Air Services, a fly-in fishing resort at Batchawana Bay, Ontario.
Among her many accomplishments, she was a cook at a prisoner of war camp up the Algoma Central Railway. She proudly taught a hospitality course at Sault College sharing her vast knowledge of the tourist industry with her students.
Mom was very fond of her Irish roots and St. Patrick’s Day was her favourite holiday. Isobel made many dear friends throughout her life, especially her many years in business. She worked hard and was known to charm many with her homemade apple pies and butter tarts.
Due to the current Covid restrictions, a private family service will be held. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Isobel’s final resting place will be alongside Nick, her beloved husband, at the Greenwood Cemetery. Memorial donations to the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund, F.J. Davey Home Foundation or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated by the family.
A heartfelt thank you to all the nurses and staff of 3rd Floor, Birch Lane at the F.J. Davey Home especially Kerri Kennedy, Rebecca Murphy, Brae-Lynn Black and Jennifer Mullville. Your quality care, compassion and humour created a happy environment for her and was greatly appreciated by both her and her family. She considered staff at the Davey Home her friends and extended family and always reminded us how well she was cared for by her care staff. She made many new friends while there especially Doris (late) Irene, Ernie, Mary and Rose who she enjoyed conversation and meals with during her time there. She looked forward to sharing her day with them.
