Isabelle Gallant
1920-2021
Isabelle Poole Gallant, age 100, of New Glasgow, passed away
peacefully on January 11, 2021, at Glen Haven Manor with her family at
her side. Isabelle was born in New Glasgow on May 2, 1920, a
daughter of Bessie MacNeil (1938) and J.H.C. Beck
(1956).
After graduation from New Glasgow High School, she went to
Ottawa and graduated from Ottawa Civic Hospital, RN, Class of
1944. After a short work period in Ottawa, she went on to
post graduate studies in operating room techniques at Johns Hopkins
Hospital and Obstetrics at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore. She
retired from nursing in 1996, having worked at the Aberdeen, New
Glasgow; St. Elizabeth’s, North Sydney; and Harbourview,
Sydney Mines.
She was a hard-working mother of six and made all family
gatherings memorable ones. She was an active volunteer for
many years with her church (C.W.L., Parish Council) and community
(VON, Stellarite Senior Citizens, Family Services of Pictou County,
Pictou County Chapter Registered Nurses Assoc.).
Isabelle is survived by her children: Marie MacNeil
(Gregory), Beaver Cove, Cape Breton and their children, Krista, Shauna
and Blair; Keith (Helen) Gallant, Sherbrooke and their children,
Sarah, Lawrence, Duncan and Anna; Frank (Colleen) Gallant, Pictou and
their children, Lisa, Jason and Emily; Claire Gallant, Edmonton, and
her son Colin; Jane Hall (Joe), Halifax, and their children, Lori,
Meghan and David; and also several great grandchildren.
Isabelle was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Colin (1995)
and son, Colin (1977), sisters: Lillian MacIntosh (James), Dwina
MacLean (Walter), Thelma Sangster (Charles), Alma Bruce (Bill), Lucie
Potts (Clarence « Clary »), Marguerite Fillmore
(Frank); brothers: Boswell Beck (Rose), Vernon Beck (Isabel), John
« Jack » Beck (Laurie), James Beck (Denise).
Isabelle was the last surviving member of the siblings.
Due to current pandemic restrictions, there will be no
visitation. Funeral Mass, by invitation only, will be held
Friday, January 15 at 11 am in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Stellarton,
with Rev. Barrett Clare-Johnson presiding. Social distancing
protocols must be followed, and masks are mandatory. The service can

Donations in Isabelle’s memory may be made to Our
Lady of Lourdes Church, Stellarton, Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, or
a charity of your choice. The family would like to thank Dr. Barclay
and the staff of Glen Haven Manor – River Glen for the
wonderful care that she received. Funeral arrangements are under the
direction of R H Porter Funeral Homes Ltd., New
Glasgow.
