Isabel McLean
1929-2021
Isabel Roberta McLean. It is with great sadness that we
announce the sudden and unexpected passing of our mom, Isabel McLean,
at her home in Stellarton on Friday, August 6th, 2021.
Born on October 11th, 1929, she was the youngest child of the
late James D. and Alexandra MacLeod. She is survived by her sons:
Eugene (Chris), Greg (Mary), Gerald (Dawn), Paul (Rhonda) and her
daughter, Doris. She was the last surviving member of her immediate
family.
She was predeceased by her husband, Joe; her young son, Bruce
Frederick; daughter-in-law, Vivian (Eugene) McLean; Eugene’s
step son, Jeffrey; brother Bud (G.F.) MacLeod; sisters: Jean
(Proudfoot) and Ruth (Fraser); sister-in-law, Dorothy MacLeod;
brothers-in-law: Jim Proudfoot and Stewart Fraser.
Grammy/Nanny loved, adored and was so proud of her
grandchildren: Christopher, Alicia (Matt), Jared (Cassandra), Blake,
Kara (Bryan), Nicole (Kristy), Lauren, Taylor (Alyssa), Skyler
(Michael) and was overjoyed to have and dearly loved her 4
great-grandchildren, Aulay, Claire, Ewan and Graeme. Her children,
grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the glow of her
life.
Isabel was a life-long member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic
Women’s League (CWL) and, in her earlier years, loved her
bowling days with her many bowling friends; she always let the entire
family know when she got the prize for high single and whenever she
won as little as five dollars in the lottery or from the Chronicle
Herald crossword puzzle. She enjoyed for many years her
neighbourhood forty- fives card party set up every Thursday night at
random house locations and, later in life, even at her apartment and
her apartment complex community
room.
She loved family get-together and meals, but family or not,
the message to all was very clear – « Don’t ever
touch or take my lobster or my glass of
Kahlua! »
In compliance with Isabel’s wishes, funeral
arrangements are under the direction of R.H. Porter Funeral Home in
New Glasgow. There will be no visitation due to
Covid restrictions, just immediate family and relatives only. A
private funeral service will be held from Our Lady of Lourdes Parish
with Father MacDonald Ibeh officiating. Burial will be in
the Parish cemetery.
Any consideration of donation in her memory can be made to
Our Lady of Lourdes CWL, The IWK Children’s Hospital or a
charity of your choice.
« Say not in grief
she is no more but live in thankfulness that she
was »
