Paoletti, Laura Iona (nee Callahan) 1938-2021
Iona passed away Feb. 7, 2021 at Headwaters Health Care Foundation, Orangeville, three days before her 83rd birthday. Predeceased by her husband Arcangelo Paoletti, and her parents Charles and Sophie (Grahlman) Callahan. Lovingly remembered by her children and treasured grandchildren: Vince (Brenda) Paoletti and Giovanni; Paula Cornish (David Seyler) and Myles; Victor Paoletti.
Iona was born in Kapuskasing, Ontario, Feb. 10, 1938. Her parents Charles and Sophie raised Iona between their home in Kapuskasing and the Callahan and Grahlman Family Homesteads in Sullivan Township outside of Chatsworth, Ontario. Iona met and married her husband of 52 years in Kapuskasing and their son Vincent was born there. Although considering herself a Northern Girl at heart, she and Arcangelo moved first to Thessalon where their daughter Paula was born, and finally to Glammis. Bruce County became their home and their third child Victor was born there. While Arcangelo worked at Hydro they raised their family in the old Glammis Schoolhouse. Close to many of her cousins in the Desbro and Chatsworth area, Iona and Arcangelo became lifelong members of Bruce County. Iona would tell you though, that she was still that Northern Girl from Kapuskasing. In recent years they had resettled to join their daughter and son in Grand Valley.
Iona valued her heritage, her family, her friends and her faith. In each community she lived in Iona was known for her love of hospitality. In turn, each community she lived in offered her lifelong friendships. As she reflected on her life she was thankful to all those who made her life so full. She wanted them to know that her memories of them filled her with love that just overflowed in her heart. This was a message she relayed in her last weeks of life and asked that it be shared to all.
Iona’s final resting place will be at the Sullivan Cemetery outside of Chatsworth Ontario where she will be laid to rest beside her husband and her parents.
As her faith was important to her, the family asks that donations be given to support Glammis Baptist Church and/or Waldemar Pentecostal Assembly. Donations can be made directly to the church(es) or through Dods and McNair Funeral Home.
A tree will be planted in memory of Iona in the Dods & McNair Memorial Forest at the Island Lake Conservation Area, Orangeville. The next annual dedication service will be held on Sunday, September 12, 2021 at 2:30 p.m. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.dodsandmcnair.com
