Ida’s Obituary
SHAND, Ida Louise (Clements) – 86, of Bear Point. It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beautiful Mom, on Thursday, November 25, 2021, at Bayside Home, Barrington, with her loving family by her side. Mom was born December 25, 1934, in Tor Bay, Newfoundland to the late John and Louise Clements (Lyle). Mom moved to Shelburne, NS at the age of 13. She worked at Roseway Hospital prior to marrying our Dad on March 14, 1953 and moving to Bear Point. Mom worked at TeeDee Hopkins Fisheries and Alpheus Halliday Fisheries until her retirement. Mom’s passion was making quilts. She made many quilts, over the years, for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She made her last quilt, this year, at the age of 86, for her first great, great grandchild, Declan. They are cherished by all who received them. They are beautiful keepsakes that we will treasure forever. Mom was a member of the Bear Point Advent Christian Church and Sunday School. She attended the little white church on the hill for 68 years, where she held several offices over the years. She was a member of the Bear Point Thimble Club, the W.H.& F.M. Society, and the Birch Hill Cemetery Association. She was an active volunteer in the community. She loved spending time with her family, especially potluck get-togethers. Mom and Dad enjoyed camping with their friends. Mom was a very proud Newfoundlander and made sure everyone always knew she was from Newfoundland. She will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her, especially her family, and dear friends Elizabeth (Bussie) and Edie. She is survived by her children: Bonnie Shand, Margaret (Jim) Bullerwell, Steven (Jeanne) Shand, Cheryl O’Connell, and Tracy (Darren) Swimm. Her grandchildren: Jackie, Jamie, Joey, Patrick, Shawn, Jason, Nathan, Brianna, and Jordan. Her siblings: Shirley (Dale) Thomas, Bob (Barb) Lyle. Brother-in-law Sherman (Maxine) Shand. Many nieces and nephews. We would like to thank Dr. Keeler and the staff at Roseway Hospital for their excellent care. A huge heartfelt “Thank You” to Jessica Hallet, R.N. and the entire team on the “D”wing of Bayside Home, for their wonderful and compassionate care. Mom loved them and they loved her.
