Ian Davis Mackenzie
1949-2021
With heavy hearts we
would like to announce the passing of our dear father, husband and
brother Ian Mackenzie, who passed away on Sunday, May
16th, 2021 at home in Port Hawkesbury with his
family after an intense but brief battle with cancer. He was born
January 25th, 1949 in Montreal, the youngest in
his family of 3 siblings.
A graduate of Algonquin College, he spent time in the finance
industry as well as professional and business development across the
country. In 1985 he settled in Port Hawkesbury with his Wife and young
children and was well known and loved everywhere that he went. He
always had a smile and a handshake, as well as a sympathetic ear for
anyone that needed, and made sure to instill his grace and respect in
his children. He loved his family more than anything, and made sure
everyone knew this.
Ian was pre-deceased by his mother, Elsie Cleland Davis;
father, David Mackenzie and brother, David Alexander Mackenzie. He is
survived by his sister, Nancy Mackenzie; wife, Anita Mackenzie;
daughter, Leigh Mackenzie (Max Thompson); son, David Mackenzie (Leanne
Mackenzie); as well as his four grandchildren, Kyle (David), Drew
(Leigh), Halle (Leigh) and Walker (Leigh).
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the
team at the Strait Richmond Palliative Care Society for their
incredible care and devotion to their father, husband and brother
during his fight. Your care made all the difference during his final
weeks and days. Also, many thanks to their neighbors, friends and well
wishers for their contributions during this difficult
time.
Visitation will take place 6-8 p.m. on
Thursday, July 29 in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port
Hawkesbury. Burial at a later date. The family would
like to direct any donations in Ian’s name to the Strait
Richmond Palliative Care Society.
