Hugo E. Dittfach, a long time resident of Georgetown, Ontario passed away peacefully at approximately 7:45am in Beaverton, Ontario at the age of 85. Born on September 20, 1936 in Leer Germany to Meta and Hugo E. the first Dittfach (predeceased) as their second child.
Loving husband of Betty McTague, predeceased by his former wife Kay. Survived by his siblings Elfride and Adolf. Loved by his children Michelle, Hugo E. Dittfach the third (Lynn), Erich, Rosemarie (Jacob), Johnathan (Bonnie) McTague, Miriam. Remembered by his nephews Robert and Ricky (predeceased) and grandchildren Jaiden, Jaxen, Ezra, Miriam and Emma.
Hugo is a World Class Thoroughbred Jockey having 4000 wins accredited to him. His military service consisted of 3 and a half years in a Russian prision camp in Poland. The starvation contributed to his small stature enabling him to become a jockey. He was recruited from being a bus boy at the bus terminal in downtown Calgary. Absolutely everyone was impressed by his incredible work ethic and knew then, in 1953 (autumn), that this fellow with the winning smile would be very successful at whatever he turned his hand at. Hugo had a determination and strength that is known by few yet he had a kindness and softness for people and all God’s creatures. He never needed or asked for anything. Hugo expected honesty and integrity from others, although often disappointed. Hugo had a huge capacity for love and positive encouragement. No job was too big or small and he would give it all his best shot. His drive to learn was unmatched.
A graveside visitation will be held at Highland Memorial Gardens, 33 Memory Gardens Lane, North York, Ontario on November 8th, 2021 from 12:15 p.m. – 1 p.m. with a service to start at 1 p.m. and interment to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations on behalf of Hugo can be made to the Upper Credit Humane Society.
