Howard Stanley Allibone October 17th 2021

Howard Stanley Allibone passed away peacefully with family by his side on October 17, 2021.
He is survived by his son Ron (Darlene), daughter Sandra, multiple nieces, and nephews, his 4 grandchildren Stephanie (Ryan), Melissa, Kayla, and Amanda; and great-grandchildren Campbell, August, and Heidi. He is predeceased by wife Melva Allibone (1939-2015), and grandson Aaron Allibone (1982-2003).
Howard was born in Rossland, to Stanley and Violet Allibone. He moved to Ta Ta Creek, BC (Kimberly) at a young age. It was there he learned the ropes of life on a rustic farm. He returned to Trail in his early teens. He took on a tough job at CP Rail and later started his lifelong career in the automotive parts business. He married Melva Campbell in Trail on April 5, 1958.
Howard was a business partner at Taylor Wilton Automotive in Trail. There he shared his passion of fishing and hunting by mixing automotive parts with fishing and hunting supplies. This became the drop-in spot for the local outdoors men and women to share their tales.
When he wasn’t hunting or fishing, he played Commercial Hockey for the Montana Cats.
Later his life’s journeys found him and Melva spending summers in New Denver with Howard always exploring the mountainsides.
Creating custom lumber from the trees he cut, picking mushrooms and berries, spending endless hours in his hunting blind waiting for that whitetail buck, and fishing Slocan and Kootenay lakes for the biggest Rainbows and Dollies his passion was always in the wild.
Huckleberry Howie claimed this name while spending countless hours scouring the Slocan Valley mountainsides in search of the world’s best huckleberry patches. He was a fearless competitor, battling the hungry grizzlies and standing his ground when the huckleberries were just right.
When in Warfield, Howard spent most of his waking hours in his workshop, creating handcrafted bird houses, breadboards, and other intricate wood fabrications, but always ending the day at “wine time”.
The family wishes to thank and acknowledge the staff at Poplar Ridge and Columbia View Lodge for their support in Howard’s care. A special thanks to Denise.
He will be forever known, lovingly, as Grumpy Gramps to his granddaughter Stephanie and Grampa Howie to granddaughters Melissa, Kayla, and Amanda.
As per his wishes, there will be no service. You are invited to leave a message of condolence.
Donations in his memory can be made to the Trail Wildlife Association. trailwildlife.com or call Terry 250.364.1838
