Herman Hazelaar
1931 – 2002
Herman Hazelaar was born on Thursday, May 21, 1931, in Voorhout, Holland. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Audrey; their four children, Harold, Ron, Rhea and Rhea as well as six grandchildren. Herman was predeceased by his first infant daughter, Rhea at the age of 5 months. He immigrated to Canada in 1950, settling in Coaldale. In 1952, Herman moved back to Medicine Hat along with his mother and father; two brothers and one sister. He worked for the C.P.R. for one year and then moved on to a job with the National Porcelain Factory. Herman took on a job painting for Dutch Brothers in 1954 and continued to work there until starting his own business in 1968; Herman’s Painting and Decorating. He remained self-employed for the next 33 years until his retirement. Herman loved gardening, RVing, singing in the choir, watching his grandchildren’s sporting events and building floats for the Stampede Parade.
