Obituary
Herb passed away peacefully on December 10, 2021, at the age of 86. Herb was predeceased by his loving wife Evelyn (nee Tilson) and her daughter Jackie. He is survived by her daughter Judith (Bruce). He was the greatest grandfather ever to his granddaughter Angie (Trent), her children Austin, Cody and Gracey and his grandsons Josh, Ben, Justin, Greg (Marjorie), Michael (Jie) and their children Chad, Theo and Lily.
Herb was born in Grande Prairie to Norman and Blanche (nee Foust) and grew up on a farm near Hythe, Alberta with his siblings Lucille, Phyllis, Beverly, Gordon, Phillip, Don, Merlyn and Darrel.
If you ever met Herb you would attest to his quiet demeanour and interest in what you were doing.. every baby he saw at church or in a grocery store would get his full attention. His grandkids spent many weekends fishing with Grandma and Herb at the fishing hole near Carson Creek. A number of Cub Scout troops spent time with Herb at his trapline North of Athabasca.
The grandkids always looked forward to Klondike Days when Herb would spend the full day with them. They would close the park!
Herb received his Law Degree from the U of A. Shortly after which Coopersmith & Stubbs was formed in Calgary. He later moved to Edmonton where he worked for the Workers Compensation Board.
Herb was an ardent HAM Radio operator (VE6TM) and a member of QCR and NARC. For decades he helped armed services members serving in the far north stay in touch with their families.
Although Herb is not here, we continue to celebrate this great man. One who has shown us the true meaning of giving. The greatest gift you can give is your time and Herb gave generously. A family celebration will be held at a later date.
