Henry’s Obituary
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts the we the family of the late Henry Wallace Skeard announce his peaceful passing at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre in Port aux Basques, NL on Tuesday, December 7th, 2021 at the age of 97 years. Born in Port aux Basques, NL, Henry was the son of the late Wallace and Ivy Skeard (nee Francis). He was also predeceased by his wife; Eileen Skeard (nee White), daughter; Patricia Skeard, brother; Elijah (Myrtle) Skeard, father and mother-in-law; Herbert and Harriett White (nee Currie), sisters-in-law; Jessie Petite, Minnie Matthews and Shirley Brace.
Henry leaves to mourn with many fond and precious memories his loving children; Elizabeth (Graham) Payne, Wallace (Sheila) Skeard, Ivy (Melvin) Chaulk, Paula (Reg) White all of Port aux Basques, NL, grandchildren; Darren, Craig, Tina, Jodie, Karen, Megan, Chloe, great-grandchildren; Destiny, Nicholas, Jordan, Cameron, Nathan, Isabella, Bailey, Mackenzie, Cole, Abby and Emily, plus a large circle of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Henry loved his life, resided with his daughter Paula and son-in-law Reg for ten years then moved and became a resident at the Mountain Hope Manor in Port aux Basques for ten months. He made a career for himself and worked at Marine Atlantic until he retired. He loved his family and most of all his loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom he adored so much. He will forever remain in our hearts and will never be forgotten.
The family would like to send a special thank you to Dr. Mosawe and Cathy for the care and support given to Henry, a thank you to the nursing staff at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre for the care and compassion given to the family, thank you to the Dietary and housekeeping staff at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre, all your hard-work does not go unnoticed. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 9th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at East Haven Funeral Home Inc., 57 Grand Bay Road, Port aux Basques. The funeral service will be held on Friday, December 10th, at 11 a.m. from St. James Anglican Church, Channel-Port aux Basques officiated by Rev. Jane Allen. Interment to follow at St. James Anglican Cemetery, Barachois Hill, TCH. Flowers are graciously accepted or donations in Henry’s memory can be made to the charity of one’s choice.
