Called to be with the Lord, Hank passed away peacefully in his 97th year at his residence in Stillwater Creek with family by his side on February 4, 2021. Born in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, Hank was the son of the late Hendrikus van der Horden and Gerritje den Hollander. He is predeceased by his first wife of 62 years Maria Elisabeth and predeceased by his second wife of 12 years Gwendolyn. Hank leaves behind his loving daughters, Mary Newton(the late Rev. John), Gerry Merkel (Carl), Major Patricia McInnes, his precious grandchildren, Karen (Rob), Dave (Lianne), Brian, Melanie and TJ and much beloved great grandchildren, Alexander and Maxim. Hank was predeceased by his brothers, William, Bastien, Gilbert and his sisters, Connie and Gerrie. He will be missed by his sister Kaatje (the late Fred), and his brothers John (Donna), Ralph (Barb) Albert (Deanna). He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Hank worked as a precision instrument machinist for AECL until his retirement. He leaves a beautiful, faithful Christian witness. His compassionate concern for others, love of music and gentle ways will be remembered by all. The family would like to thank the nurses, PSW’s and staff of Stillwater Creek for their care and compassion. A very special thank you to the excellent care and compassion that Dr. Shamim Taherzadeh provided to our dad. A private burial was held at Pinecrest Cemetery and a Celebration of Life will take place when Covid restrictions allow.
