MILLER, Helen Cecilia born New Lowell ON, July 23, 1929 passed from the living realm peacefully at the respectable age of 91, Friday January 22nd 12:00 am. Mrs. Helen Miller, was well tended to in her last days by the professionals at Campbell House Hospice Collingwood, ON. We cannot thank them enough.
Helen (Hayjee) was predeceased by her husband “Salty” Allen R. Miller in 2008. Out of 5 siblings, (Elwood, Dolly, Marjorie, Ivan), she is survived only by her brother Billy (Bill) Thompson of Mississauga.
Her adult children, all Collingwood residents; Brenda (partner Richard Tremblay), Deborah, Philip, Barbara (deceased), William (partner Richard Farrow, who just welcomed a new grandbaby girl Saturday the 23rd!).
Helen’s 2 grandchildren, Shannan Barbara Miller and Brandy Allan Bruce-Miller, blessed the family with a total of five great grandchildren. Spencer Allan Miller (son of Shannan Miller, daughter to Brenda). (Barbara’s son) Brandy Bruce Miller (wife Kelley Bruce) added 4 other great grandchildren Esme, Kieren, Bellamy and Zinnia. Grandchildren Alana and Barclay Miller, were lost as infants but not forgotten.
As a young woman before marriage, Helen worked for Noma Lights Owen Sound. Eventually moving to Collingwood, she held a kitchen job working at Tasty Grill, downtown Collingwood. She was pursued determinately by a handsome young man (Allen) who frequented the place and she eventually married him on Valentine’s Day 1950, even though she thought he dressed too flashy! Joining her husband to work for Canada Steamship Lines, her third child Barbara, was named after one of the ships they sailed on (the E.B. Barber). After establishing her family home on Eighth St, Helen worked for TRW and as a long time, loyal, employee of Bendix Collingwood.
A fun loving, jive dancing, contest winner she was always ready to entertain. Helen was devoted to her family and had many sincere friendships, although she was a bit shy of strangers. As a devout church goer, Sunday School Teacher and Matriarch, Helen had a generous heart, always having room at her table for one more. Age never slowed her down, evident in her membership to several Leisure Time Club activities. She rarely missed attendance at the Legion fish fries, attended exercise classes regularly, as well; she participated in most Heritage Community Church social events.
Mom always found a way to make due or to see the positive in a bad situation and has instilled this in her family. Thank You mom.
Helen had predetermined Cremation to be appropriate and will be joined with her husband again for internment together.
Notifications for a Lifetime Memories Celebration will be distributed, when a healthy gathering environment returns.
The family requests that donations, in lieu of flowers, go to Hospice Georgian Triangle – Campbell House.
We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to all that befriended our Mother and thank you from the family for your generous outpourings of empathy.
