Helen’s Obituary
HELEN LANNING (nee NINNIE) March 10 1956 – February 3, 2021.
She was predeceased by her father Peter Ninnie, mother Tootsie (nee Shumi), brothers Robert, Raymond, and James, and sisters Betty and Joyce. She is survived by her husband Ronald; children Coreen (Cj), Karen, Aaron, and Julianna; nephews Bradley & Clinton; grandchildren Jacob, Lucas, Sienna and Isabella; brothers Thomas and Raymond (Zoot); and various nieces and nephews.
Helen was born in Bertwell, SK. She grew up in the Somme/Weekes area and went to culinary school in Saskatoon, SK. She met her husband, Ron, at church in Porcupine Plain, SK. They were married on July 26, 1975 in Carragana, SK where they lived for that first year. They later moved to Porcupine Plain and then settled in Tisdale, SK until 1993.
She spent some time cooking in restaurants but she later decided to be a full-time wife and mother, especially after nephews Bradley and Clinton joined the family in 1991.
In 1993, the family moved to Alberta where Helen partnered with her husband to run his business.
Helen was a generous, caring woman who loved her family and friends. After the big move to Alberta, she still made sure she made regular visits to see her family and friends back in Saskatchewan. She also had a big soft spot for the Hope Mission in Edmonton, AB and made regular donations to that charity.
She loved gardening. She spent hours caring for her big vegetable garden and her multitude of flower beds. That was where you would likely find her if you couldn’t get her on the phone!
Helen was diagnosed with kidney failure in 2016. After a long battle with that-and diabetes, she finally succumbed peacefully in her sleep on February 3, 2021. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
