It is with great sorrow that the family of Helen Christine Choquette announces her passing on April 17, 2021 at the age of 95. She has gone to join our dad, Arthur.
Predeceased by her parents Catherine and George Sutherland, brother Alex, sister Jemima and son-in-law Richard.
Mom is survived by her five daughters Cathy (Fred), Carol, Corinne, Darlene (Rob), Donna (Mike), nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Also left to mourn is her sister Kathleen (Kay) Fargher. She also leaves behind many extended family members and dear friends.
A private family service has taken place.
Helen was born July 5, 1925 in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, during the depression. Her dad found work in the Kootenays with a final destination, Nelson.
After completing high school, she enlisted and served in the air force (1943-1946). She met Arthur Choquette, the two were married in 1949 and raised a family of five.
Helen worked with Arthur in the family business. In her free time, she enjoyed bowling, curling, crib, and golf which she took up at the age of 65. She also volunteered at the local I.O.D.E. thrift store where she retired after 25 years of service at the age of 93.
She loved living at Lakeview Village where one of her greatest pleasure was playing cards with a group of friends. She was a competitive player with a quick wit, much to say she was a character.
Summer meant everyone came home to the cottage on Lower 6 Mile Road. Helen treasured reconnecting with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She leaves behind a legacy of family.
Mom was lucky to have many wonderful friends. We would like to extend a special thanks to Sharon Fletcher and Tina Greenall for always being there for her, their friendship was invaluable. The family would also like to thank the staff at Lakeview Village for a wonderful 10 years.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
