Obituary
Hattie “Ruth” Jones passed away on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at the age of 92 years.
Ruth was born on December 26, 1928 to Mattie and William Muse of Bath, North Carolina, U.S.A. and grew up on a farm where tobacco, cotton and sweet potatoes were the main crops. In 1944, Mom moved to New Bern, North Carolina, where her older sister, Ella, lived. She got a job working in a drug store and in 1945 she met our Dad, Lindsay Jones, who was in the U. S. Marine Corps, Air Corps, stationed at Cherry Point, North Carolina. They were married on June 29, 1946. Dad got out of the U.S. Marines on July 6, 1946.
Mom and Dad moved to the Emmaville district in Saskatchewan in July of 1946 where Dad’s parents farmed. In 1949, they purchased and moved to their own farm, which they farmed together until 1986. Mom was a hard worker, every spring she got 200 baby chicks and turkeys, she milked cows, helped look after the herd of cattle. She did field work, picking rocks, roots, and stooking. She always had a huge garden and lots of flowers. The cellar was full of root vegetables and lots of canned fruit, vegetables and meat. She did all this while raising 8 kids.
In her spare time, she enjoyed curling in the winter time, and golfing in the summer. She always enjoyed playing cards, knitting, sewing, and crocheting. The grandkids always got new mittens and slippers at Christmas and each of the girls received a beautiful crocheted tablecloth for a wedding present.
For the last ten years of Dad’s life, Mom took on the role of his full-time caregiver. He suffered with crippling Rheumatoid Arthritis and with the help of homecare, Mom was able to care for him, in their home until his passing in September 2001.
One of Mom’s favourite things was seeing her grandkids and then great grandkids. Their birthdays were never forgotten; they all received a card with money inside on their special day.
Mom continued to reside on her farm with the full time help of her son, John, enjoying her garden, flowers and yard until she suffered a debilitating stroke in November 2019. She spent 7 weeks in North Battleford Hospital. She was then transferred to Turtleford Hospital in January 2020, and from there to the Turtleford Riverside Health Complex in July 2020. On March 3, 2021, she suffered another stroke and passed away on March 13, 2021 at the age of 92.
Mom is survived by: her loving son, John, who resides on the family farm by Spruce Lake, SK; her six daughters, Sheila (Mitch Illerbrun) of Lloydminster, Linda (Garth Kirkness) of Prince Albert, Pat (Darryl Napper) of Turtle Lake, Julie (Tony Borzel) of Lashburn, Susan (Kevin Senkin) of Marshall, and Vicki (Wayne Madden) of St. Walburg; her 20 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild; her sister, Ella in Austin, Texas; her sister-in-law, Shelby Muse in Washington, North Carolina; and her sister-in-law, Lillian Jones in Hamilton, Ontario; and numerous nieces and nephews.
