Harry Schulz
March 19,1931- February 26,2021
Harry passed away peacefully at the Concordia Place Nursing Home Covid Unit on February 26, 2021 at the age of 89.
Harry Schulz was born March 19, 1931 in Kondrajec/Sierpe, Poland to Adolf & Alma Schulz. After World War II the family decided to immigrate to Canada and were sponsored through McDermot Avenue Baptist Church. Harry along with this oldest sister, Wally, her husband and young son became the pioneers of the Schulz family to set foot on Canadian soil in 1953. Harry’s remaining family followed in 1955.
McDermot Avenue Baptist Church became his spiritual home until his passing. Harry met his wife Dorothea Olschewski at the church, married in 1959 and were blessed with 5 wonderful children. In 2020 Harry and Dorothea celebrated 61 years of marriage.
Harry was known as a hard worker, never shying away from physical work, at church, at work and at home. He served as an usher and sang in the male choir. Harry secured a permanent position at Canada Packers for 35 years.
Throughout Harry’s life he gladly volunteered countless hours (over 35 years) at Camp Nutimik, in building and maintenance for summer campers. This became his pet project, putting his heart and soul into giving his time- to assisting this project that gave so many children the privilege of experiencing summer camping and exposure to God’s word.
In 2018, Harry had a new, life changing encounter with the Lord which allowed him to gracefully accept his situation. After which the nurses often commented: “Mr Harry always has a smile for everyone”. Towards the end, he reminded us to work hard, love each other and above all love the Lord.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Dorothea, Children: Margarete, Ronald (Karen), Ingrid (Reg) Porcher, Dorothy (Berni) Plett, and Harald (Vicky). Grandchildren: Jeff (Tanya) and son Keith, Amy, Bradley Porcher, Vanessa, Natalie, Jordan Schulz, and Devyn Plett. Sisters: Wally Panasiuk and Irene Freiter, and many nephews and nieces.
We would like to gratefully acknowledge the loving care of the doctor, nursing staff, and support workers at both the Concordia Place, and extended care these last weeks in the Covid unit.

A private family funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 5,2021 at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street. Interment will follow at Brookside Cemetery.
