Obituary
Kae Tucker, long-time resident of Regina, SK and more recently, Qualicum Beach BC passed away peacefully on May 28, 2021, at the age of 99.
Kae is predeceased by her parents Archie and Hazel Watson, husband Thomas Tucker and son Victor Tucker. She is survived by her children Reginald Tucker (Diane), Pine Falls, MB; Carol Hodges (Dave), Qualicum Beach, BC; grandchildren Kirstie White (Mike), Sheldon Tucker (Carla); Graham Hodges (Amanda) and Neil Hodges (Jen); great grandchildren Jacob, Hazel and Norah; brother Keith Watson and several nieces and nephews.
Kae was born in Neville, SK in 1921. Growing up during The Depression, her family lived in several small towns in southwestern Saskatchewan as well as Vancouver, BC for a short period, as her father sought and gained employment to support his family.
Graduating from Normal School in Regina, Kae became a teacher. Her last teaching position in Grove Park, SK is where she met the love of her life, Tommy. They were married on July 3, 1943 at Holy Rosary Cathedral in Regina, SK. After WWII, together they owned and operated General Stores in Cupar, Ridgedale and Kinistino, SK. Following Tommy’s death, at a young age, Kae relocated her family to Regina to accept a position with the Sask. Department of Social Services. Kae worked in various capacities with The Department until her retirement, after 29 years of service, in 1984. Throughout her working career Kae developed many close friendships which she maintained over the years.
Suffering from Wander-lust, Kae loved road trips whether they were a local Sunday drive to the Qu’Appelle Valley for ice-cream or an extended trip to places such as Ontario or Vancouver Island. One of her travel adventures took her on a free-spirited whirlwind EurRail Pass holiday throughout Europe with her friends Olga and Barbara Fraser. Among her many and varied travel adventures Hawaii remained her favourite destination.
A talented seamstress and knitter Kae often burned the mid-night oil creating clothing and other miscellaneous items for her family. Kae was a voracious reader and avid Bridge player, both of which kept her sharp, mentally. She actively followed current events including her favourite sports teams The Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Calgary Flames.
Mom was a warrior. She was a cancer survivor of 44 years. It was not an easy road for her but she did her best to not let the post surgery and radiation complications keep her down.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Comfort Keepers, Parksville and The Hawthorne Place, Qualicum Beach for their support and loving care of our mother. Her daily care-giver, Brittany Alexander, became ‘family’ during the last six years as she was a devoted and compassionate element in Mom’s life. Mom touched the lives of many people throughout her long life and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
A family memorial gathering will be held at a later date.
